The Geek Old Man

New Mini PC

Not selling or promoting  mini PCs’ or any computer system. This is a follow-up to my computer adventures with my Intel NUC10 mini PC.

As I said in the previous post, INTEL is no longer in the NUC mini-PC business. Sold out design to ASUS and many other vendors. The vendor I landed on is named GEEKOM . Click link to go to their web page.

I purchased my new GEEKOM through AMAZON . Click for the Amazon webpage.

It’s exactly the same case size as my original NUC10. Fits perfectly in the same filter case (shown here) I designed for the old NUC.

I picked this particular GEEKOM as it was the latest version Intel processor and the case was designed (tall enough) to contain the 2.5” SATA (2TB) HDD. As listed it had 32GB RAM (64GB max)

It included a 1TB (C:drive) M.2 2280 NVMe (2TB max) which is twice the size of my original 500 GB NUC. It also had a (empty) M.2 2240 SATA slot. I purchased a 1TB drive for this slot.

My existing 2TB HDD from the old NUC fit perfectly and thankfully is in perfect operating condition.

Surprisingly, I tested the old NUC with the 2TB HDD removed and it booted and is fully operational. OMG! Not sure what’s going on but now I seem to have a fully operational (old) NUC10.  That’s OK with me!

The new GEEKOM (I need to get use to that name…) Fills all my expectations and needs. Blazingly fast and gets the job done. With an external 1TB USB drive plugged in, I have 5TB of storage on tap.  I also have a 2TB NAS (Network Accessible Drive) and use all this space and multiple to keep important file backed-up I also have ample cloud storage. One can’t be too safe.

I don’t run bench tests and brag performance numbers. That’s not what I am about. I buy decent spec hardware I believe I need and then believe what I see in my real use.

I am happy so far with the new GEEK Old Man on my desk. That’s all that is important for me. Will post again if anything changes better or worse. ~ DK
